Unit 66

TASK 1
Film:
Transformers

3D Is in transformers. 3D is used when the transformers turn from a car to a transformer. I know this is 3D because they rotate around them whilst they are transforming.
Avatar

3D is used in Avatar. 3D is used when there are avatars on the screen. You know it is 3D because in the film there is rotation so you can see the avatars from different angles.

Games:
World of Warcraft

3D is used in world of Warcraft all the time. There are cinematics sometimes which are 3D and in the game you can right click and rotate around your character which shows 3D.
Fifa 15

On fifa, 3D is used. I know this because you can change the camera views and go on instant replay and rotate the angle of the camera which shows fifa is in 3D.

Web:
IMDb

3D is used on IMDb. When you watch trailers of films that might be 3D so they promote 3D.
YouTube

3D is promoted in YouTube because people upload videos that contain 3D. Many 2D videos are uploaded too. You can tell which 3D is if they have more than camera angle or if they rotate.

TASK 2
Animation is a technique in the photography; it is successive drawings and models to create an illusion of movement when the film is shown as a sequence.
Blender is used to create 3d printed models but you need to create models out of something such as clay first to use them in making the 3D image on screen. You can also do interactive 3D applications and video games. A spot light used on models in 3D modelling is the same as it is in real life.

TASK 3

Vertices: Are points that can describe corners and intersections of geometric 3D shapes. They can be added to the model to change the smoothness of corners or add additional parts.
Lines: You can have straight curved or smooth lines/spline. You can create these different lines in the modify panel
Edge:  The edges or sides of a polygon and are found in all models. And edge is the connection between two vertices.
Polygon: A polygon is a plane figure bound by a close circuit. Polygons are made up of edges or lines and vertices. A complete polygon is called the body and you can modify what it is made up of such as the faces, edges and vertices.
Faces: The face of an object is a complete side of the object and is a closed set of edges.

Games Development Assignment 3D – The Basics
Three dimensional (3D) is an object that has height, width and depth like an object in the real world. Different interactive media use 3D such as TV/films, the web and games. 3D environments on the web can be seen in various forms of media such as games or animations. Animations with 3D environments can be found all over the web on sites such as YouTube, and games with 3D environments such as Runescape can be played within a web browser. 3D is used in films because it draws a large audience because people find it entertaining. 3D is used in films such as Transformers and Avatar. In Transformers the transformers are 3D which has a lot of detail. They express their 3D and special effects when they show the transformers transforming from a vehicle into an autobot or a decepticon.

3D is used in games for characters and the surroundings in the game. Gamers want the three dimensional polygons to look more and more realistic, this can happen because technology Is getting more and more advanced such as Fifa on the ps1 and Fifa on the ps4.

Fifa on PlayStation.

Fifa on PlayStation4.
As you can see in the images Fifa on the PlayStation4 is much better graphically that on the original PlayStation. There is a lot more detail and even the crown looks more realistic. You can see so much in the pictures but on the PlayStation 4 there is a 3D crowd whereas on the original PlayStation there isn’t one. The pitch looks a lot more real on the PlayStation 4 and the stances the players are in are more real because they have been rendered more so they look more defined so they are less of a block shape.
The graphical content and 3D structure of the PlayStation 4 is better because technology is getting more advanced so they can have a lot more detailed polygons. Games developers started making the characters look better in games but didn’t concentrate on the background as much. Then they started putting the detail into the background also, to make it look as real as possible. Fifa on the original PlayStation is a good example because they made all the players 3D and put as much detail as they could then into them but they kept the crowd 2D.

3D models have become very important to product designers because they can see their product visually and see how it would be used and function which is a lot cheaper than making the models. They could be made incorrectly or found out to not be as function able as they thought because then they would have to make more models which will then be expensive.

Polygon models consist on making a mesh construction. Polygon models are one of two primary types of 3D modelling that is used in the entertainment industry such as games and films. The geometric theory is how models are constructed used vertices, lines, edges, polygons and faces. Vertices are points that can describe corners and intersections of geometric 3D shapes. They can be added to the model to change the smoothness of corners or add additional parts. Two vertices joint together forms a line and if there are four vertices it forms a square. Lines can also be straight curved or splines (smooth lines). Edges are sides of a polygon. Edges are like lines because they are between vertices but on a 3D image instead. A polygon is a plane figure bound by a closed circuit. Polygons are made up of edges and vertices and sometimes lines. A complete polygon s called the body and you can modify what it is made up of such as the faces, edges and vertices, and a face of an object is a complete side of the object and is a closed set of edges. Games like Call of Duty and films like Pacific Rim. Some of the best looking models start as simple as basic geometric shapes that you learn in school.

Mesh constructions is a technique used when making 3D modelling where the model is modifies primitive shapes to create draft version of what they want the end product to look like. Mesh construction step by step details the picture taking away what you don’t need like starting with a cube. A primary function of box modelling involves extruding and scaling the faces, which are the flat planes that make up a model. This picture shows this

Stage 2 has been rendered from stage 1, the blocks have been removed to make each step have more detail, stage 3 has a lot more detail than stage 1 and 2.

Polygon count is the first constraint of 3D modelling. This is a problem for 3D such as real time programmes, not like 3D modelling used in animation. In video games where you can look around and rotate seeing around where they want to then the hardware has to render the polygons depending on where the character is facing. They don’t have to do this in an animated movie because the polygons in a movie are all pre rendered. Therefore this is a constraint because the performance of the video game may not perform very well. Some games that are very high quality textures and character models can be used to see how powerful you pc is.

The second constraint is file size. This is very important due to the fact the majority of games get put onto disks and the disks only have a certain amount of storage capacity on them so they need to compress the game so that it can fit onto a single disk. Now some games are getting so detailed and so big that they have to put it onto 2 disks, one disk to install the game and then another to play or one disk for single player and the other for multiplayer. This is why games played on the PC looks better graphically better than when they are played on a console.
